I’m a self-professed sports nut who loves to watch, read, and write about sports, and all the hot goings-on in the sports world. My first love was swimming. I swam competitively since I was 7, and still train occasionally. I have played (pretty badly) basketball, soccer, and football for many years, from elementary school to high school and college and broken a few bones along the way. But because I have zero athleticism (oftentimes requiring me to rely solely on brute strength or technique), I got pretty good at watching and analyzing different sports. Does that make me an expert? Not by a longshot. If I was, I’d be coaching somewhere. Or studying under Arsene Wenger in London. Or working under Rockets genius GM Daryl Morey. But I do offer a different, and at times, more entertaining perspective on things.
Another thing I’ve dabbled in for a while is Martial Arts. I’ve dabbled in a few different types of martial arts before – Judo, Muay Thai, Pencak Silat – and have been doing Zen Budokai Jujitsu for a few years now (I currently have a brown belt!). Suffice to say, I also enjoy combat sports like MMA and boxing. It may seem a little barbaric and primal, but fighting, war, and martial arts are an extension of human identity. We’ve been fighting wars for years. It’s part of our nature. Even if we’re at a different time, I say we should celebrate this heritage.
